Are sunshelters allowed, ie. 10x10 coleman sunshelter?
Katrina's Reply: Typically they are. No tents with floors though, apparently.

My parents own a house on 2nd street, they'd love for me to bring my horse for a visit and I'd love to ride around town/on the beach some. What are your rules for horseback riding? I'm sure I have to pick up any poop, I'd pick it up after riding with my parents golf cart?

Hi Folks! My name is Patrick Crunkleton. I'm an analyst for the government and have a sailboat at Winkie Doodle Point Marina. I'm interested in creating a day of sailing for kids who have cancer. I want to give them the experience of being on the water, of exploring the sea, smelling the air, and being free. I've talked to a local cancer center and the lady in charge thought it was a great idea. What I'm thinking about is creating two possible days in September or October (you never know how the weather is going to be) to take out anywhere between 10-30 kids. It would require people committed to creating a pretty awesome memory for a child and who have a sailboat in the area--probably would need several folks with boats. The idea would be to take them out for a day to really experience sailing. Maybe even a creating a lunch for them somewhere. If anyone has any thoughts, interest, or ideas around this I would very much appreciate it. My email is pec4cAll@aol.com or you can facebook me at patrick crunkleton. Look forward to hearing from you! Patrick

I heard that many beaches on the Potomac are now closed due to bacterial infections. What is the swimming situation at Colonial Beach right now (Labor day weekend, 2016)?
Thank you!

We are planning a family vacation to Colonial Beach. What can you share about the water quality? How often is it tested? Where are results posted? Thanks!

With the sightings of sharks near the Harry Nice Bridge I was wondering if there has been any sightings near or in the area of the public beach. Also, does anyone know how bad the jellyfish are right now?
Thank you!
Interested in a day trip to colonial beach to hang out on the beach. We have two young children and are curious if there are public bathrooms, showers?? free parking and if not what's the cost? Easy beach access?
Thanks!
Katrina's Reply: There are public restrooms in the building with the mural on the side, as well as further down the Boardwalk next to "The Cannon" war memorial. As far as parking, there is metered parking right next to the beach on Irving Ave. which costs a quarter for 15 minutes. Parking is also available next to the parking lot for The Riverboat. Look for the kiosk to make your payment. There is free parking on some of the side streets. You could also park at one of the shopping centers (Beachgate or Plaza) and take the Trolley in closer to the beach area. Hop off at either the Taylor Street or Town Pier stops. Enjoy your visit to the beach!
